Various robot mower models on green lawn in comparison

Robot mowers are no longer a luxury – they are a smart investment in a beautiful lawn with minimal time commitment. As a certified Husqvarna partner, we have been installing and maintaining robot mowers in the East Westphalia-Lippe region for years. Here we share our experience.

Why a robot mower?

The advantages are clear:

  • Time savings: No more manual mowing – the robot works autonomously
  • Better lawn: Frequent mowing with fine mulch cutting promotes dense, healthy growth
  • Quiet: Modern models are so quiet they can even work at night
  • Eco-friendly: No petrol, no exhaust fumes, low electricity consumption

Choosing the right size

The most important criterion when choosing a model is the area capacity. Our recommendation:

Small gardens (up to 500 m²)

For compact gardens, an entry-level model is sufficient. These devices are more affordable and work reliably on manageable areas. Pay attention to good slope capability if your garden has gradients.

Medium gardens (500 – 1,500 m²)

Here we recommend mid-range models with GPS navigation. These divide the garden into zones and mow more systematically. The battery life covers the entire area, and the cutting width is larger.

Large gardens (from 1,500 m²)

For large properties, you need a premium model with a powerful battery, wide cutting area and intelligent navigation. Models like the Husqvarna Automower 450X can handle up to 5,000 m².

With or without boundary wire?

Traditional robot mowers require a buried boundary wire. The latest generation works without one:

  • With wire: Proven technology, precise boundaries, lower purchase price
  • Without wire (EPOS/RTK): No cable installation needed, more flexible with garden changes, higher purchase price

We advise you individually on which option makes more sense for your garden.

Professional installation

Professional installation is crucial for reliable mowing. Our services include:

  • Surveying and analysis of your garden
  • Professional laying of the boundary wire (if needed)
  • Optimal placement of the charging station
  • Programming and zone setup
  • Introduction and everyday tips

Maintenance and winterisation

To ensure your robot mower works reliably for many years, we recommend:

  • Regularly: Check blades and replace when needed (approx. every 4–8 weeks)
  • Season start: Cleaning, software update, function test
  • Season end: Professional winterisation with cleaning, battery care and frost-free storage

Conclusion

The perfect robot mower depends on your garden size, terrain and requirements. Do not rely solely on test reports – a personal on-site consultation is irreplaceable.
